Senior Application and Services Engineer (Post-Sales Engineer)


We are looking to fill a key, highly-visible position: Senior Application and Services Engineer (Post-Sales Engineer). This person will be responsible for analyzing customer needs and requirements for real-time data processing systems and helping customers create high performance, highly scalable applications using our product, StreamBase.

This position is based in New York, NY, with significant US travel.


 

Responsibilities

The candidate will function as a product expert to assist customers with detailed needs analysis and implementation of e-business, online gaming, and financial services systems.

  • Develop software on the StreamBase platform for StreamBase customers, mentor new customers through initial system deployments, and develop Proof-of-Concept implementations for prospective customers.
    • Meet with customers and prospects to determine project requirements and limitations.
    • Assess current environments including connectivity/integration needs.
    • Evaluate project scope to determine feasibility and resource requirements.
    • Develop detailed designs and Statements of Work.
    • Perform design and coding projects for deployments.
  • Deliver in-house training for customers on StreamBase products to familiarize customer personnel with product concepts, features, and functionality.
  • Respond to customer questions and/or problems in a timely fashion.
  • Handle large corporate customer projects as a “Lead Architect”.
  • Capture and communicate relevant market and customer feedback to provide input to our strategy and product development process.


 

Required Experience

  • B.S./M.S. with strong academic credentials in computer science, engineering or related field.
  • 10 years experience as a developer of enterprise or systems level software.
  • 5-7 years experience in consulting services engagements, preferably in both a large Systems Integrator and start-up environment:
    • Experience in implementation of vendor-based enterprise or systems software solutions at customer sites.
    • Demonstrated successful software deployments.
    • Experience in related areas such as real-time systems or with applications such as Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft is a plus.
  • Experience building financial services data processing infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and business-process skills and the ability to apply them to technical solutions.
  • An understanding of the strategic challenges of the financial management industry is a plus.  

 

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, system administration, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Application design and programming experience in the following languages: Java, C#, and SQL.
  • Experience with JDBC and relational databases (Oracle, SQLServer, etc.).
  • Experience with the following messaging systems a plus: JMS, Reuters, TIB RV, Wombat.
  • Experience with J2EE, SOA/Webservices a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including talent in presenting complex concepts, relating to customers, listening, and negotiating.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as the only consultant at a customer site, or as a member of a team.
  • Ability to interface with senior level executives and effectively respond to technical questions.
  • Project management expertise with external customers in delivery and support of software implementations.
