StreamBase CTO Mike Stonebraker to Discuss Stream Processing Trends in Financial Services during Live Webcast

CMP's Wall Street & Technology Magazine to Host Panel Discussion on Delivering Competitive Advantage through Low Latency Processing and Analysis of Real-Time Data

BOSTON, MA – September 19, 2005 — StreamBase Systems, Inc., provider of the leading stream processing engine (SPE) and source for software to process, analyze and act on real-time data within milliseconds of its arrival, today announced that Dr. Mike Stonebraker, a pioneer of database research and technology and the CTO and co-founder of StreamBase Systems, Inc. (http://www.streambase.com), will join a panel of industry veterans, thought leaders and experienced users to discuss problems associated with processing of large volumes of complex event streams. Hosted by Wall Street & Technology, this Editorial Perspectives TechWebCast will begin on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time (11:00 a.m. Pacific).

With existing technology and infrastructures reaching their limit for handling and analyzing real-time market data, newer technology is needed - especially as data volumes balloon and the need for zero-latency increases. As the practice of algorithmic trading has grown, the problem of processing and reacting to the high-volumes of data — often within milliseconds — has become urgent. During this Webcast, attendees will learn how the latest stream processing technologies and processes can help leading financial services organizations gain a competitive advantage through high-speed, low-latency processing of real-time data.

Attendees will receive a complimentary white paper, entitled "Eight Rules for Real-Time Stream Processing in Financial Services," recently authored by Mike Stonebraker. In this paper, Dr. Stonebraker, also a professor of Computer Science at M.I.T. and recipient of the 2005 IEEE John von Neumann Medal, highlights how stream processing is pushing the limits of traditional data infrastructures and the attributes needed to address the challenges of streaming real-time data.
