StreamBase and Reuters Team to Provide Next-Generation Market Data Development Environment
BOSTON, MA (USA) — November 15, 2007 — StreamBase Systems, the leading provider of high-performance complex event processing (CEP) software, today announced a partnership with Reuters extending StreamBase Studio to make it easier than ever for developers to build high value event processing applications powered by the Reuters Market Data System (RMDS) and StreamBase.
Under this partnership, StreamBase and Reuters have created a series of extensions to StreamBase Studio that enable developers to leverage the growing range of content types delivered over RMDS. StreamBase Reuters Edition (RE) provides a highly productive environment for simplified and rapid development of applications that consume market data. By lowering the technical barrier to developing real-time financial applications, StreamBase RE allows a broader range of users across the capital markets to deliver applications required by their businesses to improve profits and reduce risks.
CEP is rapidly becoming a widely adopted core technology for filtering, correlating, aggregating, and computing on real-time event data without requiring custom-coding. IT research firm, Gartner, projects that by 2008, low-latency CEP solutions will become “a competitive requirement” for investment services firms.1
StreamBase’s software with extensions for Reuters RMDS combines three significant capabilities in one platform—rapid development via the industry’s first and only graphical event-flow language, extreme performance with a low-latency high-throughput event server, and seamless integration with any RMDS data source as well as stored data. The Studio development environment provides rich graphical support for the full application lifecycle, spanning feed integration, application modeling and development, and connectivity with downstream systems and interactive dashboards. In addition, StreamBase RE provides sample financial services applications leveraging Reuters data and schemas to further accelerate development and delivery of real-time applications.
Michael Parlapiano, Executive Vice President, Reuters Information Management Solutions, said: “Reuters has been in the business of enabling application developers for almost 20 years, with thousands of applications written against our RMDS platform. In the last several years, as the pace of trading automation has skyrocketed, Reuters has responded with enhancements to RMDS that support both ultra low latency data distribution and complex new data types required by our customers. Managing and leveraging this new complexity has put additional demands on the developer community. Our partnership with StreamBase now provides an integrated development environment that enables developers to harness the power of the StreamBase CEP engine combined with the richness of RMDS to turn this new complexity and richness into a source of competitive opportunity for their businesses.”
Chris Risley, CEO, StreamBase, said: “By combining the power of StreamBase Studio’s rapid application development environment with the vast content available from Reuters, financial services institutions can truly leverage a best-in-class solution. This industry partnership provides developers with the tools to quickly benefit from new real-time applications such as high-value market data analytics, algorithmic trading, smart order routing, real-time risk management and P&L, transaction cost analysis, and cross-asset applications with any number of equity, fixed income, foreign exchange, options and news feeds. In addition, the ability to easily incorporate critical market data, news, and fundamental information into these applications through real-time alerting and decision-making functions, provides a substantial competitive edge to Reuters customers.”
